Boy Scouts Seek Input, Holding Council Meetings--Ohio Information Here!

March 2013 ed. 02

It seems the Boy Scouts are looking for input and holding meetings at the council level this week and next. Here's the Central Ohio notice:

Simon Kenton COUNCIL INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS, Register by Friday, March 15

Recognizing the diverse beliefs of our chartered organizations, BSA leadership began the discussion about the removal of the national membership restriction on those who are open or avowed homosexuals.

During the course of this discussion, the Boy Scouts of America’s National Executive Board concluded that the organization needs time for a more deliberate review of its membership policy. Accordingly, the officers authorized its committees, representative of Scouting’s members, to further engage representatives of Scouting’s membership and listen to their perspectives and concerns.

Two meetings are scheduled to give members of the Simon Kenton Scouting family an update on the process in place to review Scouting’s Membership Standards, and to help our council provide the National Council a sense of the impact that either a change or no change to these standards will have on our council.

These meetings will be held on:

Tuesday, March 19, 7:00 pm
Simon Kenton Council, Leadership Development Center, 807 Kinnear Road, Columbus, OH 43212

Thursday, March 21, 7:00 pm, Chillicothe High School Auditorium, 421 Yoctangee Parkway, Chillicothe, OH 45601

There is no cost to attend either meeting. However, in order to ensure that adequate space is available for all attendees, and to permit us to communicate any changes necessitated by attendance, preregistration is required.

REGISTER by Friday, March 15 HERE.

The Dan Beard Council will be collecting local feedback through an online survey which contains the same questions asked in the Voice of the Scout survey.

You can access the survey directly HERE.

We encourage everyone in the Council to take this survey and provide feedback. This survey will be active until March 31st.

The Dan Beard Council will be hosting 3 Council Information Meetings that will share materials provided by the national council that focus on an even presentation of the topic, and allow members to hear about the upcoming timeline and procedures, as well as the opportunity to complete the survey in person versus on the web. These meetings are scheduled to take place the week of March 18th at the following locations around the Council:

March 18th at 7:00 pm at Anderson Hills United Methodist Church (7515 Forest Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45255)

March 19th at 7:00 pm at The Heritage Presbyterian Sanctuary (6546 S. Mason Montgomery Rd, Mason, OH, 45040)

March 20th at 7:00 pm at Northern Kentucky University - Regents Hall (Nunn Drive, Highland Heights, KY 41099)

March 21st at 7:00 pm at Rapid Run Middle School (Auditorium) (6345 Rapid Run Road, Cincinnati, OH 45233)

Maps to these locations and the information that will be presented at these sessions can also be found online at

Please take a moment to forward this e-mail to those in your Scouting circle. It is imperative that we hear from as many of our members and supporters as possible so we can accurately report the opinions of our members to the National Council and our voting delegation in preparation for May's vote.
