PFOX Ex-Gay Awareness Conference Two Days Away in Washington, D.C.

Alan Keyes, Sandy Rios to Headline PFOX Event Focusing on Struggles and Triumphs of Families and Friends of Ex-Gays

Richmond, Va.—Just two days remain until Friday's Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays (PFOX, www.pfox.org) second annual Ex-Gay Awareness Month Conference—a two-day event to celebrate the ex-gay community and encourage acceptance and support for those who want to leave the homosexual lifestyle.

"Our second annual conference is a time for celebration of new life and change, as well as a commitment to equality for those who wish to leave the homosexual lifestyle," said PFOX Executive Director Regina Griggs. "With love and acceptance, we will continue to strive to raise awareness that changing sexual orientation is possible, and to support those who now identify as heterosexual."

Set for Oct. 3-4 in Washington, D.C., the conference features a legislator education day on Capitol Hill on Friday for those interested in visiting their legislators in support of ex-gays and individuals with unwanted same-sex attractions. To register for the conference, click here, visit http://pfox.org/the-second-annual-ex-gay-awareness-month/, call (804) 453-4737 or email info@pfox.org.

Scheduled speakers at the conference include:

  • Alan Keyes, former ambassador and presidential candidate
  • Sandy Rios, Director of Government Relations for American Family Radio Talk and Vice President of Family Pac Federal
  • Matt Barber, founder of BarbWire.com
  • Peter Sprigg, Senior Fellow for Policy Studies at Family Research Council
  • Jayson Graves, Clinical Director at Healing for the Soul
  • Greg Quinlan, Past President of PFOX
  • Regina Griggs, Executive Director of PFOX
  • Denise Shick, author, speaker and Executive Director of Help 4 Families
  • Christopher Doyle, President of Voice of the Voiceless

From 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, international worship leader Dennis Jernigan, who is ex-gay, will perform his music and premiere his new film about his life and leaving homosexuality called, "Sing Over Me." Hors d'oeuvres will be served, followed by a Q&A session with Jernigan.

The all-day conference and luncheon on Saturday will celebrate the lives of individuals who have left the homosexual lifestyle and will include a panel discussion with parents and friends of ex-gays and gays, led by Griggs.

At the conference, Rios will receive the Friends of Ex-Gay Freedom Award, and Jernigan will receive the Ex-Gay Courage Award.

PFOX recently unveiled its new web site to serve as an encouraging resource for parents and friends who are supporting an ex-gay or gay family member.

Found online at www.pfox.org, the site provides help and support to ex-gays and their family and friends as they live out their daily lives. PFOX believes knowledge is power and wants to keep the community informed of the latest news concerning ex-gays and the ex-gay community by disseminating accurate information and debunking misconceptions about ex-gays and same-sex attraction.

PFOX is a national non-profit organization that supports families and educates the public on sexual orientation and the ex-gay community. PFOX is for every person seeking the support of family, friends, the community and church. PFOX supports an inclusive environment for the ex-gay community and works to eliminate negative perceptions and discrimination against former homosexuals by conducting public education and outreach to further individual self-determination and respect for all Americans, regardless of sexual orientation.

PFOX believes that every person seeking positive life change needs and deserves the love and support of friends, family, the community and the church and strives to offer a place for help, a place for truth, and a place for the ex-gay to participate in the conversation about same-sex attraction.

PFOX families love their homosexual child unconditionally, believing that true love is granted in spite of our differences by treating each other with kindness and respect. Each year, thousands of men and women with unwanted same-sex attractions make the personal decision to leave a gay identity through gender-affirming programs, including counseling, support groups, faith-based ministries and other non-judgmental environments.

For more information on PFOX, visit www.PFOX.org.

Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to support families and educate the public on sexual orientation and the ex-gay community.
